My mother was a therapist (治疗). Well, technically she was a hairdresser, but in reality she was a therapist. I. grew up in the salon (美发店) — sitting on the chairs after school, listening to the ladies talk about their problems, watching my mother comb and listen. She gave every one of her clients her attention. When they were in that chain she was theirs. She listened to stories of cancer, marriages, divorces and everything in between. As a child, I found it strange that these women would talk so openly to my mother about such deeply personal matters.
I remember once listening to one of my mother’s clients talking to her about some financial problems she and her husband were having. In the break room later that afternoon, I made some comments about it to my mother. I do not remember what I said but I clearly remember her response: “When people share their lives with you, it means they trust you. Trust is more important than money.”
My mother died on February 14th, 1999. It was a simple burial. But there is one image that stands in my mind: the sea of faces at the service. There must have been over a hundred people at the service. Among them was a man, whose wife used to be one of my mother’s customers. He came because of the special care my mother gave to his wife when she was dying of cancer. I did not find out until years later that my mother went to the hospital every morning for months to wash her, do her make-up and get her ready to face another day.
My mother was a hairdresser. She had a 4th grade education. In her lifetime, she didn’t earn millions of dollars and was not successful by today’s standards. But in my mind, she is one of the most successful women I know.

Hate washing clothes? Shin Sakane has a solution.
The Japanese inventor received 6 billion yen ($53 million) from partners, including Panasonic Corp, last month to develop “the Laundroid” — a robot, which Sakane is developing to not only wash and dry clothes, but also sort, fold and skillfully arrange them. The equipment could, play the roles of washing machine, dryer and clothes drawer in peopled homes.
Sakane, whose earlier inventions include a golf pole made of space materials, said these inventions would bring closer his dream.
While the full product is expected to be put into the market in 2019, an early version that can only sort and fold clothing goes on sale worldwide in March.
The goal is to finally get the price of the full version to less than about 300,000 yen ($2,700). The model going on sale in March will probably cost more because of higher production costs.
“We decided that by combining Panasonic’s washing and drying machine technology and folding technology, it is possible to bring an all-in-one (多功能) product to the market,” said Kyoko Ishii, a spokesman for Osaka-based Panasonic.
Users will still have to do some tasks on their own, such as making sure clothes aren’t inside out. Each piece of clothes takes about 10 minutes to fold. Sakane thinks it is because of the necessary time to scan each part of the clothing and communicate through Wi-Fi with a central server. He is working to get it down to 3-5 minutes.
23. What’s the function of “the Laundroid”?
A. washing and drying clothes.
B. washing, drying, sorting and folding clothes.
C. washing, drying clothes and setting them in the drawer.

24. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. There’re still some disadvantages about the new washing robot.
B. Sakane is working to cut down the time to 3 minutes.
C. Users still have to do some tasks by themselves.
D. Folding each piece of clothes takes much time because of communicating with a server.
25. What’s the best title of the text?
A. A famous Japanese inventor
B. Shin Sakane’s invention
C. A Robot to help you with washing clothes
D. the wide use of a new washing machine.
26. What does the text most probably come from?
A. A biography B. A website on art
C. A science magazine D. A news story
