W: I know! Doesn’t it seem like everything is better when you’re on vacation?
M: you said it! Hey , I want to get a picture of us next to this fruit stand. www.2abc8.com
Text 3
W:Whoa, watch out! You almost knocked me down, you jerk!
M: Oh, I’m so sorry! I have to get to hospital. My friend is having an operation. My apologies again!
W: Well, I suppose that’s--- wait a minute--- my wallet! It’s gone! Hey, come back here, you thief!
Text 4
M:Excuse me. Could you tell me the library hours?
W: Sure. We open at 8:30 a.m. and we don’t close till 7:00 p.m. except on Sundays when we close at 5:30.
Text 5
W: I really enjoyed the TV special about the life of Walt Disney last night. Did you get home in time to see it?
M: Oh, yes, but I wish I could have stayed awake long enough to see the whole thing.
Text 6
W:Good morning. Can you tell me where Lecture Room 437 is, Please?
M: Sure. Just go to the end of this hall. You’ll see set of stairs. Go up to the fourth floor. Once you’re there, look for the library. Lecture Room 437 is right next to it.
W: Is there a lift that can take me there? I have quite a few books and other materials
M: Unfortunately, the lift is out of service at the moment. It’s being repaired this afternoon.
W: That’s too bad. I guess I’ll just have to carry everything myself.
M: I’m actually going to Lecture Room 437. I can help you take some things.
W: Oh, that’s wonderful. Thank you!

W: Excuse me, sir. This is 2247 Reindeer Way, right?
M: Yes, it is. Are you looking to rent the apartment?
W: I’m here to meet Joy Wang. She is my wedding planner. Have I come to the right place?
M: The address is correct, but there is no one here by that name. The only business here is the print shop on the second floor.
W: I must have gotten the numbers mixed up.
M: Well, you can’t be too far. You’re on Reindeer Way. There is a police station just up the road a bit. They will be able to direct you.
W: How far away is it?
M: It’s two blocks up. On this side of the street. It should take you five minutes.
Text 8
W: Ow! My back and neck are really hurting. I can’t even focus on my schoolwork. But I have a huge exam tomorrow. It determines my final grade.
M: That’s probably why you’re in pain. You’ve been sitting in front of the computer for over twenty-four hours! Maybe you even hurt your some muscles. I think you should go to the university clinic. You don’t even need to make an appointment.
W: How much does that cost? The last time I went to my family’s doctor, it cost me $100 just to be seen. That’s a little too expensive for me right now.
M: The clinic is free for students! Didn’t you know that? It’s included in our school costs. I think you should go there. You’re not going to be able to take your test if you’re in extreme pain.
W: That’s a good point. I have to get at least a 90% on that exam to avoid failing the course. I guess I’ll stop by the clinic this afternoon.
Text 9
M: Robin, why are you looking so upset?
W: Well, I’ve got problems… financial problems.
W: I’m sorry to hear that. What’s happened?
M: Well, I had to get my car fixed, I had to get an engineer round to fix my broken TV, I received a huge tax bill and then to add to it all, I lost my wallet yesterday!
W: Oh, poor you. So what are you going to do?
M: Well I need to ask a good friend to lend me some money.
W: You want to bor row some money? You’ll need to find a really good friend then.
M: Yes, a really good friend—like you? I know you’ve got some spare cash.
W: Sorry, Robin, I’ve just spent that on a really nice holiday. But I can recommend a good part-time job. It’s my friend, John, he said he needed a trustworthy man to help him take charge of the library at night. I’ll ask him to give you some cash in advance if you work there.
M: Great! Now I’m just worried where I can get some nice food to stuff my poor empty stomach…
W: Oh, come on! Just come to my house tonight. I’ll cook for you.
M: It’s so nice of you, Abi.

Hey, everybody! Welcome to Los Angeles. I’m excited to be guide, and I’d like to say a few words about this great city before we get going. There is something for everyone here: the beach, the mountains, and the shopping. The weather is also nice almost every day of the year. Some things are very different in Los Angeles compared to the rest of California. People here care about fashion, so it’s common to see young and old people wearing the latest fashions. Everyone has a car, and public transportation is still pretty slow and difficult to use. So, the traffic and the pollution are always pretty bad, which might be the only bad thing about it. Los Angeles is where the private taxi company Uber was born, and its cars can be seen at all hours of the day and night. The food in Los Angeles is really amazing. Many people eat out for all their meals, which is similar to how New Yorker s do it. Most local people are very relaxed and can appreciate the need to take things easy! They’re easy to make friends with. I think that’s the case with most people who live in Southern California.
