　　定语从句中的关系词有who/whom, which/that, whose, when/where/why, as，这是常见的，其中that在一些情况下可以相当于when/where/why，同时还有than与but。

　　than作主语、宾语和补语

　　主语：more than is necessary ; as happened

　　than和as在从句中可以替代主语(很像关系代词)。

　　He worries more than is necessary.

　　他担心过度。(不能说：…more than it/what is necessary.)

　　There were a lot of people at the exhibition—more than came last year.

　　展览会上有许多人——比去年来的人要多。(不能说：…more than they came last year.)

　　than还可以充当宾语和补语。

　　They sent more vegetables than I had ordered.

　　他们送来的蔬菜比我订的多。(不能说：…than I had ordered them.)

　　She was more frightened than I was. 她比我还害怕。(不能说：…more I was it.)

　　在这种情况下，有些英语方言在than后面用what。

　　They sent more paper than what I had ordered. 他们送来的纸张比我订的多。(不标准)
